The Beirut port blast on August 4, 2020, has caused a serious humanitarian crisis adding to the country’s political fragility and institutional and economic instability. Nowadays, massive international aid is concentrated in the immediate vicinity of the explosion, neglecting the support to other affected communities that have been left with the heavy task of rehousing, caring for and assisting the victims of the explosion and the economic crisis, while suffering themselves from the lack of resources.
Strengthening and supporting local authorities in the economic and social fields is therefore necessary for their survival.
